NSAWAM GOV HOSPITAL DONATION

On Friday, July 28, 2023, the Michael De-Graft Memorial Foundation made a significant contribution to the Nsawam Government Hospital by donating educational materials aimed at raising awareness about Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The donation, comprising a pull-up banner and informative posters, is part of the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to promote health education and support communities in combating cancer.
Our founder, Miss Joan Yarboi, accompanied by four (4) volunteers donated to the Nsawam Government Hospital, and the donation was received by the hospital administrator, accompanied by a nurse, and three (3) other staff members who expressed their gratitude on behalf of the hospital staff and management. The administrator highlighted the importance of such educational resources in raising awareness about cancer among the local community and facilitating early detection and intervention. The nurse, recognizing the significance of the materials in their daily interactions with patients, conveyed heartfelt appreciation to the Michael De-Graft Memorial Foundation for their generosity and commitment to improving healthcare outcomes.
The provision of these educational materials on Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is expected to have a significant impact on the local community served by Nsawam Government Hospital. By enhancing awareness and understanding of this specific type of cancer, individuals will be better equipped to recognize symptoms, seek timely medical attention, and access appropriate treatment and support services. Moreover, healthcare professionals will benefit from the updated information, enabling them to deliver more effective patient care and counselling.

ST. MARTINS SHS VISIT

The Michael De-Graft Memorial Foundation conducted a health talk on Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at St. Martin Senior High School in Adoagyiri-Nsawam, Eastern Region, on May 18th, 2023.
Dr. Hamza Basheer, our resource person from the Haematology Department of the 37 Military Hospital delivered the presentation, covering causes, symptoms, and treatment methods of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Following the presentation, there was an interactive question and answer session where students asked questions, some of which were related to Leukaemia.
Prince Koduah read Michael’s final words, emphasizing the importance of vigilance regarding one’s health and prompt reporting of any unusual changes to healthcare professionals.
The Senior House Master extended gratitude to the foundation for the informative session, and the program was brought to an end at 2:50 pm. After the program, students continued to engage with the doctor and the volunteers, expressing interest in volunteering and seeking further information.
Four (4) volunteers, along with the doctor, participated in the event, which reached 1800 students, making it a successful awareness campaign.
Overall, the event was very interactive, and it effectively disseminated crucial information about Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

MDMF – TEMA COMM. 1 PROCESSION

On Saturday, 5th November,2022, the Michael De-Graft Memorial Foundation organized a community sensitization in Tema Community 1, aimed at raising awareness about Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. With the support of dedicated volunteers, the Foundation embarked on this initiative to educate and engage the local community.

The procession commenced at 10 am and volunteers navigated their way through the busystreets of Tema Community 1, drawing the attention of residents, passersby, and shop ownersand attendants. The procession featured volunteers carrying placards, and informational flyers focusing on Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Throughout the procession, volunteers actively engaged community members, initiating conversations about the signs and symptoms of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, risk factors, and the importance of regular health check-ups. They distributed educational materials, answered questions, and encouraged individuals to prioritize their health and seek medical advice if experiencing any concerning symptoms.

Our volunteers received a positive response from the residents, of which many shared personal experiences, and expressed their commitment to adopting healthier lifestyles and seeking timely medical attention when necessary.

This community sensitization served as an effective avenue for disseminating vital information about Hodgkin’s Lymphoma to a diverse audience within Tema Community 1. By reaching out directly to the community members in their environment, the foundation was able to create a meaningful impact, fostering greater awareness on cancer prevention and care.

Through collaborative efforts and commitment of passionate volunteers, the foundation successfully raised awareness about Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, leaving a lasting impression on the local community. This event highlights the importance of grassroots initiatives in addressing pressing health challenges and fostering positive behavioural change, as we are dedication to promoting health education and empowering communities to take charge of their well-being.

At the end of the procession, about 1200 flyers were shared, together with 25 placards which aided in getting to a larger audience especially those ploughing in cars. A total number of 23 volunteers embarked on the procession.
